There are two groups that meet for prayer at New Providence. Although they are both groups that focus on prayer, they are different from each other. One concerns praying for those in need and the other concerns praying for God’s presence in our lives.
Each week we publish a list of prayer concerns – people who are sick or in need. That list gets updated every week, and every Tuesday morning, a group of men and women meet in the parlor at 9 a.m. and pray through that list.
On Tuesday afternoons at 1:45 p.m., another group meets in the youth room for what’s called “Centering Prayer.” Centering prayer is a kind of contemplative prayer – not so much praying for something, but sitting in silence to consent to God’s action and presence in our lives.
If you want to learn to pray, please, come be a part of one of these groups. Don’t worry if you don’t think you’re any good at it, Jesus says. Just do it. Ask, seek, knock.
