Green Team

New Providence is proud of its designation as a PCUSA Earth Care Congregation.

Through a special ministry, which we affectionately call the Green Team, we strive to limit our carbon footprint while educating our church about the importance of being good stewards of God’s creation.

In the last ten+ years, we have started a recycling program here at the church, worked to convert hundreds of light bulbs to more efficient LEDs, hosted speakers and events about the intersection of caring for the earth and our faith, and started a pollinator garden on our grounds.

In 2023, New Providence was one of two organizations in East Tennessee to receive a grant from Interfaith Power and Light for a new green initiative. That grant helped to create a vegetable garden on our campus to supplement the Welcome Table food ministry.

Volunteers can help manage the gardens, pick up and drop off recycling from the church each week, and join the Green Team to help develop more ways we can become better stewards.
